An Article

I found this interesting article about school segregation. I think the author of the article is similar to Genna. The article is kind of long, but you can get a lot out of the first few paragraphs. You don't have to read the whole article, you can just skim it.

How does the article relate to Genna? If you were in Genna's situtation, would you have acted the way Genna did? or just ignore Minette?

One way the article reltes to Genna is when the speaker says, "I became one of the few white children to desegregate a black school because my mother believed in integration, as did my father," and like Genna's parents they are activists for equality. She is also in a school, that has black people, which was probably not common in the 1970's. (just a guess)

This one line, "Because I am white, no one threw rocks at me," especially reminds me of the book when Minette's window was shattered by a rock.

I to would act kind to Minette. Although Minette is rude, and mean to other students that's just who she is. Sometimes you just have to accept people for who they are, and Minette's abbrassiveness is derived from her confidence, pride, and independence. She is strong, and she just does not want sympathy or people acting fake towrds her just because they have to. I would talk to Minette because she would just be another person, another friend to talk to.

The article relates to Genna by the speaker has the same type of parents as Genna they believe in integration. Another similarity between Genna and the speaker is there comport with people of a different race, because at this time many people felt uncomfortable. The part with the rocks that Lynn also mentioned I thought of Minette when I read it.
If I were in Genna's position I would treat Minette the way in which Genna treated her as a friend and just wanted to get to know her. Yes Minette acts rude to other but she is a very private person and wants to protect herself.
